The problem was that when they went for improved Unicode support (for filenames in non-Latin character sets, I think), TextFX broke, so they took it out.
I understand there are new add-ins that do similar things, but I like having it there when I install, and - as I said - all in one place. And all of my filenames are in English, so I lose nothing by not having the full unicode support (it supports unicode file contents just fine). Anyway, it's a great free (as in free beer) program.
