Hey all, I understand there has been a few posts on this, but I had a quick question. I'm interested in playing on a Wrath server on my mac, but I need a client of course. I'm not interested in torrenting (I'm inexperienced), but if needed I could. Instead, I was curious if I could use my Wrath CDs to manually install Wrath and 3.3.5 on my mac. Is this possible with relative ease? Would I also need the CDs for vanilla and TBC, or would the Wrath CDs suffice? In short, how would I go about using the Wrath discs to get the proper client (if it's feasible)?

Yes, can 100% confirm that the the client files for vanilla, wrath, and cata are identical except for the main exe. I've never done tbc or mop or wad using windows files, though in theory the same should hold true- On windows it's WoW.exe, and on mac it's World of Warcraft.app.

You can easily find direct downloads of just the mac 'app'. Should be around 16-30mb, so tiny. Dump that in and you're good. What this means is you can download wow for mac, then just download the proper mac executable file, and you can play natively just fine without wine or vm or any kind of emulation/virtualization. I'll say what I put in another thread on this issue about 4 days ago. This 100% works on mac fine, just takes a few tweaks. Sorry to report it's going to be VERY difficult to get what you want if you don't want to use torrents.

Everything you want is 100% available through torrents, but not necessarily through direct download. It's going to be such a pain that it may be easier to have a friend torrent it for you, or go someplace with great bandwidth and torrent it there. You may find someone on the forums of the server you want to play on who might be willing to ftp it for you.

By far the easiest thing to do is download any windows copy of the game (it's 100% the same as mac) and then find a mac version of just the 'World of Warcraft' file that launches the game. I believe on a PC it's called 'wow.exe' or something, and on mac it's 'World of Warcraft.app'. The mac version of the file should be only a 14-29mb download. Just download and drop that into the game folder and you'll be good to go. You don't need to use play-on-mac or wine or anything like that, unless you're looking at the rarer BC clients. Every client from vanilla to legion runs fine natively on mac.

Once you have that, and you've got your realmlist stuff sorted out (don't forget the realmlist in the 'Data/Eng' folder) you may still get errors upon launch for some clients. Don't worry, it's not uncommon. If that happens, right/ctrl click the 'World of Warcraft.app' file you just got and select Show Package Contents.

Then go to Contents/MacOS. You'll see a file called 'World of Warcraft', open up Terminal.app and drag and drop that file into the Terminal window then press enter/return. The game should launch jus fine. The version of WoW I have for wrath and vanilla I created from the original CD's (you can do this only up to wrath, since Cata and up require a special patch to access private servers), but I did it a few years ago and I keep backing it up to an external drive when I format.

The biggest challenge you will have is finding patches at this point. You will need to do them one at a time individually (no skipping up to a higher patch). Probably start here and then try to see if any of those mirrors still have the older files. If you can't find it there, then you need to figure out what the original patch files name was, then Google that. It will be a very slow and long process.
